The population policy stipulated on issues like the number of offspring a couple is allowed to have, the benefits enjoyed by those who operated within the policy framework and the provision of penalties suffered by those who decide to operate outside the provisions of the national population policy.

Population numbers and structures are not static; they change over time thus the population system is dynamic. The Demographic Transition Model (DTM) is a diagram which shows changes occurring in population with time.

There is a relationship between demographic trends and diseases. In most instances if ailments are not handled carefully and timeously, they can degenerate into pandemics resulting in the death of many people within a short period of time.

The study of population is called demography. It is important to understand different aspects of population because population is critical to development and exploitation of resources.
