At  one level  ZIMCHE  is  a  regulatory  body (in respect   of  the   accreditation,   registration,   auditing   and, where    necessary,     de-registration    of    institutions    and programmes). ZIMCHE    also  plays  a  facilitation   role  (in  the promotion of quality, equitable  access to higher education, and co-operation  between  institutions).

Private Colleges are applauded for offering education services to several children who could not be accommodated in the government and council-run schools because of overcrowding. In addition to broadening access to education, private colleges have also introduced an element of diversification.

CABINET has approved the Zimbabwe National Qualifications Framework (ZNQF) aimed at reforming the country’s higher education system by exempting courses for students with prior qualifications from polytechnics upon enrolment at universities.

Today we explain the functions of three qualification agencies and awarding bodies, namely; Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC), Higher Education Examinations Council (HEXCO), and Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE).

ZIMSEC has set the November 2024 Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) examination registration fees for Grade 6, Grade 7, O and A level, which despite being pegged in the United States Dollar, parents will be able to pay in the local currency at the prevailing interbank rate.

The Government has today launched the Zimbabwe Early Learning Policy (ZELP) whose aim seeks to improve the nation’s educational background and foundation.

21st    Century   Skills   Early   Learning   Frameworks   prioritize the integration of 21st  Century Skills (critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, communication, creativity technology literacy, and social and emotional development) in early learning experiences (ZimCurriculum)

In Zimbabwe, it will now be mandatory for all children to enrol in early childhood development classes at four years, with the new Zimbabwe Early Learners Policy (ZELP) now extending primary education to nine years with the new early foundation.

In Zimbabwe, there are nineteen universities; thirteen of them are public state universities while six are non-state (private) universities. They are all under the supervision of the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) which monitors quality in institutions of higher education. All these universities were affected by the outbreak of COVID-19 in variegated ways.
